Oh Mollie, How Dare You Have Opinions?

See on the left, we have debate. And we use strong language (although in Mollie’s case not much swearing). It’s called passion. Now, if you read this blog at all, you know that there’s some pretty depraved conservatives out there. But when Eric Earling tries to point out some out there liberal, it’s Mollie saying we shouldn’t throw more of our men and women into the meat grinder even if some Democrats might give the OK.

Grumpy Progressives Warm the Conservative Heart

And here I thought conservatives didn’t have a heart.

It was clear even shortly after November’s election that self-described “progressives” were likely to be left wanting by the actual accomplishments of a Democratic Congress. That drumbeat of disappointments caused by failure to meet expectations has already begun on domestic issues. Now, local blogger “The (liberal) Girl Next Door” gives us a delightful recounting of frustration with Harry Reid for even considering the idea of a temporary troop surge to Baghdad.

Yes, she thinks it’s a bad idea to kill more Americans. I don’t know why Eric is so fond of dead Americans. Presumably because he won’t be one of them (You can prove me wrong). There is no good reason to support the “surge.” The Joint Chiefs seem to be opposed. Colin Powell is opposed. There doesn’t seem to be any plan associated with it. The troops don’t even seem to be coming from anywhere. But that Mollie is opposed, well that’s just the height of irrationality.

Read, enjoy, and have a happy holidays (including a Merry Christmas!). Next year should be fascinating since this grumpiness is emerging even before Democrats formally take power.

Is it just me or was her post really not very grumpy? I mean a bit upset, sure. Passionate as hell, you bet. Forward looking, no doubt. Compared to the posts on the Evil Braintrust on the budget today? Definatily not grumpy.

Also, those of us who aren’t terrified of Christianity going away soon know that Christmas is a holiday and coming up.

…And of course the fact that people like Mollie actually pointing this out helped change Reid’s position, well, who cares about that shit?

  1. Daniel K Says:

Here’s the thing: Eric is blowing smoke about the fact progressives could be critical of leadership. What he should be asking is why the hell the wingnuts, especially those at his site, have been mute regarding the Republican failures to do anything, and Bush’s policies in Iraq have been a complete and utter failure. The common response is that Sound Politics is a local issues blog, but the Iraq war affects us all, and ignoring it and national issues is as good as sticking one’s head in the sand in denial.

I agree with Dan, but with one added point:

Liberals and moderate conservatives that have any power or influence or desperate to keep the Progressive Movement from really gaining steam, because if it does, all hell will break loose.

The war will end, thus ending massive corporate subsidies for defense contractors.

Regulation will increase, and major monopolies will be broken up, drastically affecting the stock market.

Global corporate free trade will end, with predictable results.

And worst of all, the truth about 9/11 (Cheney did it) and the lies that sent us to war in Iraq will be exposed and the people who sold those lies to enhance their own mainstream credibility will look very, very stupid indeed, if not totally corrupt. When this happens, actual progressives like Sirota and liberal bloggers will achieve prominence, and these half-assed pundits will lose market share, thus affecting their fragile egos. These a-holes refuse to be marginalized, so they will do whatever it takes to keep that from happening, even sitting quietly by while our leaders sanction all kinds of heinous policies.
