I Noticed That Too

When I heard this on NPR about one of the local teabaggers we make fun of from time to time, I thought I’d have to make a post out of it. But fortunately, Blue Texan did that post, so I’ll just link to it.

That’s almost identical to the nonsense coming from Gardner.
These clowns should be forced for a week to live without everything that taxes pay for. They wouldn’t make it 20 minutes.

I hope you are not hitching your wagon to Blue Texan’s “analysis,” because while he can READ the Constitution, he does not UNDERSTAND the Constitution, because it is quite clearly untrue that Article I, Section 8 means “other people get to decide what the needs are in society and take your money to fund it.”
If that were true, the 16th Amendment would not have been necessary. If that were true, most of the rest of Section 8 would be redundant. If that were true, the 10th Amendment would have virtually no meaning.
The Court doesn’t buy it, and the Congress doesn’t assert it, which is why in the health care bill, it does not say “this bill is justified because it is for society’s needs/general welfare,” but rather, instead, says “this bill is justified because it affects interstate commerce.” That’s a weak argument too, but it’s one the Court accepts, as opposed to this nonsense about “society’s needs.”

Oh joy!!!
pudge is here to give us the uneducated man’s view on constitutional interpretation.
More CAPITALIZATION for emphasis PLEASE! It is so much more effective than any sort of reference. :-D

From Keli Carender’s page on the National
Tea PartyTeabagger Convention site:“She is currently on a leave of absence from the theater in order to have the time to plan her wedding and stop socialism in its tracks, and honestly, she’s not sure which task is more difficult.”
PRICELESS!!

Um, Pudge, the rationale for regulating interstate commerce isn’t just a passion for regulating interstate commerce, it’s because there’s a need to regulate that particular commercial activity in order to protect the welfare of citizens. Are you going to argue that the FAA doesn’t exist “for society’s needs/general welfare”? Of course it does. And that’s very clearly an instance of other people (aviation experts hired by the government) deciding what’s needed to improve safety in air travel, and then using our taxpayer dollars to make it happen.
