Shorter Wingnuttia

There’s some debate about if Drinking Liberally is going on tonight, but I’ll be there.
* Shorter Bill Virgin: If we “[e]ncourage businesses to move out of Seattle and closer to their employees” then we’ll solve all of our transit problems.*

* Shorter Faith and Freedom: The best way to honor our vets is perpetual war.

* Shorter FW Con: Pave everything.

* Shorter Eric Earling: Who would have believed that 3 years of Sharkansky’s ranting about stolen elections might make some conservatives think any close election they lost was proof that the fix was in?
* Seriously, is he even aware that King County had the third lowest employment rate in the state, and that the Metro area is even lower (for a somewhat different time)? And I’m having trouble finding the rate for Seattle versus the rest of the state, so that might be fun if anyone wants to chime in.

That Bill Virgin column is a winner. I saw it praised over at SP, but my god is it a maze of craziness, and you pulled out the nuttiest part.

Here’s the full text of it:

Encourage businesses to move out of Seattle and closer to their employees. Actually, the city is doing a fine job of this already, what with tax and land-use policies. Many of those businesses’ employees are in the ‘burbs already, either because of housing prices or schools. As has been pointed out before, congestion is not just a matter of how many cars are on the road but how long they’re on the road and what direction they’re going. Moving places of employment closer to where the employees live would cut the congestion created by putting so many vehicles on a few corridors heading to the same destination at the same time. It might also create opportunities for specialized applications of mass transit

Exactly how does one do that? Our company is based in Belltown. We have less than 100 employees, but we have people who live in Renton, Snohomish, Eastgate, Shoreline, and Vashon Island. How exactly are they going to “move closer to their employees?”

That may be the single most retard thing I’ve ever read in the PI. In fact, I’m so amazed by it, I may actually post it over at HorsesAss after I have some time on the bus going downtown to think about how truly ridiculous that is (and I may check to see if the Slog posted on it).

And that worked out so well for Microsoft (I say this as someone who is stuck every day on the western portion of 520 with all the Belltown hipsters commuting to Redmond).!

  3. Thehim Says:

Don’t forget the Capital Hill hipsters too.

Actually, as someone who was formerly one of those hipsters (Maple Leaf hipster, I guess), it will be part of any post I may or may not write up at HA today (depending on time).

Why do I suddenly hear George LeRoy Tirebiter ranting about building a bridge?

    Ooooh, good one, Paddy.
